This book ruined me…
The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius as war looms on the horizon. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don’t.
With her heart sworn to the warrior-prince by her side, and her fealty pledged to the people she is determined to save, Aelin will delve into the depths of her power to protect those she loves. But as monsters emerge from the horrors of the past, and dark forces become poised to claim her world, the only chance for salvation will lie in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.
In this breathtaking fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series, Aelin will have to choose what—and who—to sacrifice if she’s to keep the world of Erilea from breaking apart. -goodreads.com summary
FINALLY ANOTHER GREAT THRONE OF GLASS NOVEL! This and Heir of Fire are my favorites of the series (jury is still out on my favorite of the two…) The plot has REALLY picked up and now I NEED to know what happens to all of my favorites!
Politics: Now we’re getting to see some politics and how might not be as easy to take back the throne as Aelin thought… I LOVE IT! Please give me more of this in the future!
Darrow: On that note, he’s a butt face please leave
Dorian: Him using his power and kicking butt is GREAT! It would’ve been cool to see him actually learning to use his powers but I guess Empire of Storms is big enough as it is. Him and Manon have become one of my favorite ships! Chaol is gonna flip when he finds out Dorian is in love with a witch! XD
Manon: SO many reveals about Manon and the thirteen! The friendship between the thirteen and between Manon and Asterin is so great and I may have almost cried at one point when I thought someone was in danger. I can’t wait for more Manon chapters in the future!
Aelin: Similar to Dorian I LOVED seeing how powerful she was! Just as we thought we knew the limit of her power she shows that she’s stronger than we ever thought. While there was a lot of Aelin at her strongest, we also see her at a very low point. This is sad but it makes me care so much more for Aelin and cry when bad things happen.
Lysandra: Seeing her shift and kick butt is FABULOUS! I never would’ve thought the Lysandra we met in The Assassin’s Blade would become SUCH a great character. Her just chilling as a ghost leopard is ADORABLE (and if I could, I would walk around as one too). I 100% ship her with Aedion and hopefully they become more of a thing in the final book.
Trust Issues: Aelin’s trust issues can easily been seen as a character flaw due to her broken past rather than an issue with the book, but it’s still kind of annoying. I just wish she would open up and shar her burden (and plans) with AT LEAST Rowan. I just want her to let him in and TALK. I hope they are able to more open up to each other before the end of the series— THAT would be some great Aelin development.
Lorcan and Elide: SO! I like their characters (well I like Elide…) but I don’t care for their relationship. Elide is a precious cinnamon roll who deserves the world but Lorcan is just… shady… *sigh* I think the end of the book shows that he loves her (probably too much for his own good) and wants her to be safe but I just can’t get behind them…
I REALLY liked Empire of Storms! It is the first Throne of Glass book that I could see myself rereading in its entirety. It left on a crazy heartbreaking note so I can’t wait to see where the story goes (and hopefully it doesn’t kill me along the way…)
Lorcan! I KNEW I COULDN’T TRUST YOU! The fact that he is so inept that he thought calling Maeve (who wants him DEAD) would be a good idea… THEN thinks Elide will still be into him after he just got Aelin captured and tortured… WTF LORCAN GET YOUR LIFE TOGETHER! WITH THAT SAID, I do believe, while he acted with stupidity, he acted out of love for Elide. For WHATEVER REASON, he believed that this was the only way to keep her safe. I have such mixed feelings for him…
Elena: I don’t hate her… Honestly I feel kind of bad for her. She has to watch all these years while the world is torn apart because of her own mistakes AND she said that once this is all over she won’t even be able to go back to her family and mate… so, while she has REALLY messed up, I don’t hate her.
THE END! Don’t even talk to me I’m just gonna sit in my corner and cry… Actually I’m gonna put the book in the corner bc that’s where it belongs… but it’s a library book so it can’t stay in the corner for too long…
BUT REALLY: I’m sad that Alein’s back tattoos are ruined, Sad that Aelin can’t get a break. But I think it was great storytelling. Actually (as heartbreaking as it is) I like seeing Aelin at a low point like that, it keeps her from being too perfect, is much more interesting, and adds stakes to the story. I think she’ll be fine and they’ll find some other way to save the world without sacrificing her. I’ll be genuinely surprised if Aelin dies (and stays dead) but I think it would make the story more heartbreaking and memorable so a part of me hopes she dies… *hides* don’t kill me for saying that!
ROWAN AND AELIN ARE MARRIED AND THEY’RE MATES! EPPPPP!
Lysandra: her posing as Aelin and planning to pose as Aelin for the REST OF HER LIFE after Aelin sacrificed herself BREAKS MY HEART! This is the person who has spent so much of her life in someone else’s body that she doesn’t even remember what her actual form looks like, and she’s willing to spend the rest of her life posing as someone she’s not JUST SO TERRASEN CAN HAVE A RULER AND EVERYONE BE SAFE… I’m not crying you’re crying…
