My Favorite Quotes (So… A lot of Victoria Schwab quotes…)

If you’re like me, you always look out for new favorite quotes in novels. Part of the reason I put quotes in my reviews is because I love to find and share quotes that have touched me in a novel, or ones that I just find funny. So, without any further ado, I present to you my favorite book quotes!

*Oh, and I tried to keep it to one quote per author, or else this would all just be Victoria Schwab quotes…

“No one knows for certain how much impact they have on the lives of other people. Oftentimes, we have no clue. Yet we push it just the same.” ― Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why

Starting off with a book that has touched me in so many ways. This quote sums up a lot of what I’ve gotten out of reading 13 Reasons Why twice. I’ve always found the end 13 Reasons Why weirdly optimistic because you go on a journey with Clay and see him change for the better as he learns exactly what the quote above is saying. You learn the effect (good or bad) that your actions can have on others. I’ve always finished the novel with the thought of, go out and compliment that person who you think looks pretty, or who you find smart, or funny. Don’t be afraid they’ll think you’re weird for complimenting them, you never know how that compliment could make their day.

“I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still.” ― V.E. Schwab, A Darker Shade of Magic

I have a weird connection to Lila Bard. While I’m nothing like her in terms of being a badass pirate thief person (pirate/thief, not someone who steals from pirates… although she probably does that to XD), I completely relate to her adventurous nature. This will forever be one of my favorite quotes since I share the same idea of, yeah I could spend my life in the safety of my home and never taking any risks, but it feels like a waste. I want ADVENTURE! I want to TRAVEL and SEE THE WORLD!

“I wept because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet.” ― Ruta Sepetys, Salt to the Sea

Everything about this book hit me in the feels. I love how it tells the story of an event that I had very little knowledge about prior to reading. The quote is pretty self-explanatory, don’t take life for granted, you never know who has it worse.

“You could rattle the stars,” she whispered. “You could do anything, if only you dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That’s what scares you most.” ― Sarah J. Maas, Throne of Glass

This might be my favorite Sarah J Maas quote! It’s inspiring and perfect. No further explanation needed.

“There were two kinds of monsters, the kind that hunted the streets and the kind that lived in your head. She could fight the first, but the second was more dangerous. It was always, always, always a step ahead.” ― Victoria Schwab, Our Dark Duet

Kate was my favorite part of this book! Her internal struggle is done fabulously and was the emotional core for the book (at least for me). This quote touches on the idea that the demons inside us (depression, self-loathing, anxiety, low self-esteem) are bigger threats than any outside threats one will confront.

“I’ll never understand how time can make a moment feel as close as yesterday and as far as years.” –Adam Silvera, History Is All You Left Me

This book gave me all the feels! It touched me on such a personal level which I talk about in my review HERE (yeah ik shameless plug… XD) (oh and I FLIPPED when Adam Silvera said he loved that review! I’m so glad he saw it 😊). HIAYLM displays themes such as grief and loss so well, just go read it!

“In a perfect world everything would be either black or white, right or wrong, and everyone would know the difference. But this isn’t a perfect world. The problem is people who think it is.”  ― Neal Shusterman, Unwind

NOW TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE NOVELS… EVER! GAH This is just such an important quote. Many people like to imagine everything is black and white. They think complicated issues have extremely simple answers, but that’s usually not true. We need to be able to have a more nuanced view on issues.

“Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything’s possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time.” ― Marie Lu, Legend

To finish with one of the novels that originally sparked my interest in reading. This is a great motto to live by— don’t live in the past, don’t dwell on mistakes, worry about things one day at a time.

I spend my free time watching Netflix when I should be reading and writing. Then I go online and blog about books and TV shows!
